This homeowner needed more than just a good-looking outdoor space. They needed one that actually worked for their daily life. Standard stair risers can be brutal if you have any trouble with your knees, hips, or mobility - so we built the stairs with a shorter rise and wider tread to make every trip up and down easier and safer.

We added a brand new 12x24 deck and upgraded both decks with Trex composite decking and railing throughout. Trex is one of the best choices you can make for a deck surface. It holds up against moisture, fading, and heavy foot traffic without the constant maintenance that wood demands. No staining, no sealing - just a clean, durable surface year after year.

The black aluminum railing ties the whole setup together visually. It's sharp against the light gray Trex boards, and it pairs well with the existing covered patio area connected to the house. The result is a cohesive outdoor space that flows naturally from the covered section out to the open decks and down to the yard.

What we really want people to take away from this one is that good outdoor decks aren't one-size-fits-all. The layout, the stair geometry, the materials - all of it should fit the way you actually live. That's what we focused on here, and it shows in the finished product.

If you're working with a yard that needs more usable space, or you've been putting off a deck upgrade because standard designs just don't fit your needs, this kind of custom approach is worth a conversation.
